Steel Raised Panel Garage Doors
Steel garage doors are the most popular doors installed, require very little exterior maintenance and offer reliability, style and safety. Steel doors come in different gauges or thicknesses of steel with 24 -gauge being the strongest and heaviest gauge you can get in a residential door. The higher the number the thinner and less sturdier the door. Entry level doors are usually 25 or 26 gauge and are not very durable and will typically last 5 to 7 years before they start to crack and break.
Steel doors come in 3 types: (1) Non-insulated pan door which consists of 1 layer of steel. This door is typically the noisiest. (2) A 2″ inch polystyrene energy efficient insulated door with a vinyl backing or 1/4″ thick poly backing. This door is stronger and quieter than the pan door and provides a greater insulation R-value which will keep your garage warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer. (3) A 2″ polystyrene energy efficient insulated door with steel backing. This is the top of the line door and is extremely quiet and the most durable of the three types of door.
